    Thanks for your reply, but the banging sounds seem to come from all over....like a kid loose inside with a rubber mallet...my hearing is not the best.

    It was all over the cab area as i stated...went away for now after unhook battery cable...haven't drove it much since, don't know if it will come back.

    Heard banging noise when i got up this morning coming from my 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0l. Thought a squirrel had got in and couldn't get out. Opened door and nothing inside, but noise still banging body of cab, not engine area. Unhooked battery cable and noise stopped...put cable back on and...
