    Misfire in Cylinder 3

I have a 96 XLT 4.0L Explorer with about 230,000 miles. Every once in a while it idles rough and sometimes while driving it acts like it is skipping but clears and then runs good. Last week it was running bad at highway speed for about 15 minutes and the check engine light came on which...

    AC issue

I believe the problem is resolved. Here is what I found. Once I realized that I had no refrigerant I put a vacuum on the system for an hour and then blew up a balloon and put it over the low pressure valve. I blew up another balloon and put it on the high pressure valve. The next morning the...

    Radio problem 96 Explorer

I was headed to the junk yard to get an ABS wheel sensor for my 96 Explorer, tried to turn the radio on and got nothing. I also noticed that the clock was not working. After successfully fixing the ABS issue I decided to look at the radio issue. The fuses are good. the green wire has a constant...

    AC issue

I agree, I looked at that as well. Yesterday I put a vacuum on the system and it held at -30 PSI for a few hours. I noticed this morning that the pressure gauge was down from -30 to -20 in about 12 hours. It looks like I have a leak.

    AC issue

I got a Loan a Tool set of gauges from Auto Zone and as suspected, I have zero PSI on the high and low side. I also got a Loan a Tool vacuum pump and ran it for an hour down to -30 PSI. I disconnected the pump and I am going to keep the gauges connected for a day to see if the system holds the...

    AC issue

I swapped the relay with no improvement. I measured the voltage on the low pressure switch and one wire had 14 volts. the other had .2 volts. With the pressure switch connector disconnected I jumped the connector and when I started the Explorer the compressor clutch engaged. I replaced the...

    AC issue

The AC on my Explorer had been running great all summer. I checked it a few weeks ago with a gauge that is used to add more refrigerant and it was well into the green. Yesterday I got no cool air at all even when on Max AC. The compressor cycles on and off constantly every few seconds. To find...

    External Door Handle Spring replacement?

Well, I took the door panel apart, added a spring to the tension rod and it is good as new. For $1.10 this is one of the cheapest fixes yet. Thanks for the information. Total time for the fix was less than an hour.

    External Door Handle Spring replacement?

I have a 96 Explorer XLT 2WD V6. The drivers side exterior door handle springs are broken and the handle flops around. Can the springs be replaced or does the door handle need to be replaced? If the springs can be replaced how do I do that? Thanks Tim

Trying to find ABS sensor for 96 2WD XLT

I took a picture of the sensor mounted to the Explorer and it looks identical to the one on Rock Auto for the 1998 vehicle. I know the cable on the sensor is good because when I tested the sensor on AC and spun the wheel it read 50mv. As long as the sensor itself is the same on Rock Auto I can...

Trying to find ABS sensor for 96 2WD XLT

That part is listed for the 98 Explorer but is not listed for the 96 or 97. Ford told me that the part is the same for the 96 and 97 and the part number changes for a 98 and above. Do you know if this part will work on a 96?

    Power Stearing issue

In the process of replacing the front rotors on my 96 Explorer 2WD the front of the vehicle was jacked up off of the ground and I turned the wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right to gain access to the rotors. I turned the wheel with the engine off. I noticed that some...

1996 Explorer 4.0L V6 timing chain cover gasket replacement.

Surf, Thanks for the reply and the very helpful write up on this procedure. Do you think the harmonic balancer could be pressed on without using a special tool? In other words would it go on with a hammer and block of wood?
