    99 4.0 SOHC - Lifter/Lash Adjuster Noise

Well that's bad news on my end then. The sound is predominantly on the rear right side of the motor (if you're facing the compartment with the hood open).

    99 4.0 SOHC - Lifter/Lash Adjuster Noise

Ok, so just to be sure, this IS likely the adjusters right?

    99 4.0 SOHC - Lifter/Lash Adjuster Noise

So I am fairly sure that the diesel noise on my explorer is a worn out lash adjuster that's knocking, rattling, or what have you. I have a mechanic lined up that thought he could do it fairly cheap ($200-400) but before I have that done, is there anything I can do to fix it at home? Once in...

Lower Ball Joint Noises - 99 Explorer Sport

I installed it in such a way that the snap ring sits flush with the metal.

Lower Ball Joint Noises - 99 Explorer Sport

I recently replaced my upper ball joint as the local tire shop requested so I could get everything aligned. I took it back and they noticed they missed that the lower was bad too (this is all on the driver side). So following the guide on this forum and a video on YouTube, I replaced the lower...

    Heater Blowing Cold Air

I think I've found the problem. There are two lines coming out of the ball reservoir. One of them is broken off at the top of the ball.

    Heater Blowing Cold Air

Would it be the one that goes to the ball/reservoir? I broke and repaired the other one.

    Heater Blowing Cold Air

Rechecked the hose and re-rigged it to fit a little more snug. Still no hot air. Also, no matter what the air comes out of the top of the dash. Barely anything will come out of the other vents.

    Heater Blowing Cold Air

After changing the spark plugs and wires out, I noticed my car was blowing only cold air. I did break what seems to be a vacuum hose during this. It was hard, brittle plastic. But I reattached everything with some new hose that fit over the old hose snuggly. Anyway, I thought the thermostat...

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

Well, I believe I found the problem. I pulled the fuel filter just to see if maybe it was a bit clogged and immediately, a rusty mixture of fuel and gunk game out. I tried to blow through the flow end and no air could get through. I replaced the fuel filter and immediately, power was restored...

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

I had taken the MAF sensor and cleaned it with denatured alcohol and brake cleaner...could it just be a bad sensor?

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

Today I took everything apart, replaced the gaskets, started torquing the bolts back in on the lower gaskets when one of the bolts broke while it was inside the hole. I decided to go ahead and continue, and I put it all back together. It started right up and idled fine. I don't know whether or...

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

Well, I have the gaskets coming in from autozone tomorrow morning first thing. My question now is do I absolutely need to use a torque wrench?

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

Thanks very much. I forgot to mention earlier that 3 of the 6 spark plugs were changed however, the passenger side plugs were to difficult to get to at short notice so it is running with 3 good ones and 3 not-so-good ones. However, most of the trouble began before this...is it just me or are...

    P0171 P0174 - Too Lean - Explorer Sport '99 SOHC

I got this car in january after it had sat for 3-4 years. It drove like a champ until the transmission went out. After having it rebuilt it drove like a champ again until the check engine light came on. It always idled a little rough when first starting it in the morning but i figured it was...

I am new to the forum so I am very sorry if this has already been said. I have a 1999 stock ford explorer sport 4x4. The lower ball joint is wearing down and I want to know if I have to replace the entire control arm to replace the ball joint.
