Mine were replaced at 53K. The driver side wheel bearing was toast and the seal on the passeger side was leaking so the dealer replaced both wheel bearings and seals. It was still under warranty.

I hope the percentages are better than that but you're probably right. I bought my Explorer used so other than finding out about it on the forum I'm not sure how anyone would find out about it. :(
