    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

By a 300A, I presume you're referring to a Mustang, and NOT an Explorer. Nonetheless, I'm very sorry to hear that you're already having problems with another Ford EPAS system!

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Media awareness I spent nearly an hour on the phone today with a veteran TV Investigative Reporter that has been looking into this Explorer EPAS problem. It was obvious that he had read most, if not all of the posts in this entire thread, so keep those posts coming. He had also done quite a...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Nextreme: This from a previous post of mine dated 7-19-2012, straight from the conversation I had with the lead NHTSA engineer working this problem. Tell this to your dealer's service manager. Maybe then he'll believe you about how hard it is drive these things when the EPAS fails!

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Finally got the Explorer back yesterday. 36 days at the dealership! Except for the fact that no one will/can guarantee that this won't happen again, Ford's been very fair. Paid for the entire rental car. May even pay for the lost month of XM radio subscription. Still working on that...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

NHTSA investigation Yesterday I spent a considerable amount of time speaking with one of the NHTSA Safety Defects Engineers working this problem. He's been working EPAS problems for almost 2 yrs. Since we both work for the U.S. DOT, I'm not going to play the middle-man here, but I will...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

We should have seen this coming! I'm going to go out on a limb here. Because of the unpredictability of electronics, this problem is NEVER going to have a GUARANTEED fix in the way the steering system currently exists! Do you want someone else's opinion? Read this article dated Feb. 10...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

This is not good news! This is terrible news! So the apparent "fix" may or may not work! Total luck-of-the-draw. Worked for some, but not for dallasdog. Sorry to hear this dallas. So what are we dealing with here? With it being so random, is this an engineering issue or a parts...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Welcome to the forum, Clotagames! :) Make sure you go to the NHTSA site and fill out the report. Takes very little time. Also PM your info to Cory @ Ford. You'll find his link just a few posts back up the thread. He's trying his best to help everybody with this issue. You're right...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

The more I'm learning about this, apparently the electronic control unit for the EPAS is integral with the rack & pinion assembly. That's why by replacing the rack & pinion, you're also replacing the apparent problem-child: the electrical control unit. Maybe Cory can help out with this. Are...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Replacement part update Dealer told us Fri. 7/13/2012, now 750 rack & pinion assemblies on back-order. Looks like the scope of this problem is expanding rapidly!

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Thank you, Peter. Yes, we have filed an NHTSA report. E-mailed Consumer Reports as well. Sent the link for this forum to the dealership's GM. Sent a PM to Cory. Yes, this is a serious situation. My daughter was so proud of her new rig. Now, like some other members of this forum, she...

    2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

concerned father I'm new. Please bear with me. I've never done a forum thread before. The plot thickens! Looks like the problem has spilled over into the 2012 model year. Same thing just happened at 10:15 last night to my daughter's 2012. Purchased brand new, 9,800 miles. Low speed...
