Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I know. Well My current explorer can last another year; maybe Jeep will lengthen the Grand Cherokee

or I buy the GC, 4runner, or Durango. Perhaps this will filter back to Ford and they will add yet another the trim... ...XLT, limited, sport, Platinum, and now "Retrofit". The later will have a 21 gallon take, full size spare, and perhaps a truck frame. I would be happy with the first 2.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

Its interesting hearing the different perspectives. I have had flats hundreds of miles from home, so I'm hung up on the absence of a full size spare. ....and I don't want to stop every 300 miles for gas. I'm going to wait till the fall (next month or 2) and then I'll have to make a decision...

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

Nice Car. Its All wheel drive. Consumer reports indicates its a big Grand Cherokee. Don't like the push button shift.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I can except the Unibody, its the gas tank size (range) and absence of full size spare that is most bothersome.... I will look at the Durango again.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I know that the adjustments are within the current technology, its just that I don't have the appropriate sized checkbook, or rather I wouldn't want to spend the money on that. But I can dream

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I think the onboard computer adjusts various engine settings to compensate. So I don't think one would notice the difference. However, when we shopped the MDX and Subaru premium Forester in 2010, we were told that if we put anything less then premium Octane in the car we would void the warranty.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I wish I could buy a customized 2017 Explorer with a 25 gal tank and a full size spare. There has got to be a way for that to be done.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

The MDX is the same size as the GC so it doesn't have enough cargo room. MDX is the same size as a GC

The 4runner was a good suggestion. I would miss the keypad on the door.

or I could buy a corvette (yea I know its a Chevy)

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

kinda sort of.... but I like the 82 cubic miles of cargo space, the Durango looks cheap, the Lexus is too expensive, I am not a fan of Chevy, and the GC is too small. I guess I could try to wait 2 years to see if Ford makes changes in the 2018 model?

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I don't want an expedition. I think Explorer's are great (I'm driving my 3rd one since 1991), but I am upset with Fords decision to decrease the size of the gas tank and not make room for a full size spare. I am not dissing the Explorer. I am aware of the GC's issues. I am sure that there are...

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

It doesn't fit (full size spare) in the well. I get over 400 mile range with my current 2010 V6 Explorer. I have gone as far as 420 miles on one trip before filling up... I was sweating it out looking for a station. Like the Explorer for the cargo room, don't need to fill it with a spare...

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

Nope. I want a V6 explorer with a 400+ range. ...and If I get a flat, I want to change tires an be on my way for the rest of my vacation

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I am posting this to get the attention of "FORD". I can't be the only person who is dissappointed with the effective range of the Explorer do to the 18 gal tank, and the absence of a full time spare.

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

I would like an Explorer with a truck chassis, a 21 to 25 gal gas tank, a full size spare, and most of the gadgets and toys in the current platinum trim. But in particular the small gas tank and lack of full size spare is driving me to the Grand Cherokee.
