Overdrive Shift Clunk
Interesting, had 4 of these trucks over the years and always seen the 3rd shock, NEVER seen a vibration dampener. Either they were long since removed or these particular model years never had them in the first place…I’ll have to check my factory service manual set for some clues. I could see...- Anticitizen1

Overdrive Shift Clunk
I did exchange the fluid in the AWD transfer case, and it was definitely dark and did smell a bit burned. The chain did not appear to have any slop in it when I checked the shaft play between the front and rear, but that’s not necessarily a guarantee all is well. I replaced it with Dex/Merc...- Anticitizen1

Overdrive Shift Clunk
Hey 410! The clunk does not appear to clunk when OD is off, but definitely a good call. I did not in fact service the slip yoke, but I did have two different shafts in the truck with no change (and there was no clunk in the truck that the other shaft came out of. I may still disassemble and...- Anticitizen1

Overdrive Shift Clunk
Hi all, been battling an issue with a new to me 2000 Mercury Mountaineer (161,x.. Miles, 5.0 AWD) where there is a distinct clunk when accelerating and making the transmission downshift out of overdrive. To be very specific, it does not appear in any other gear change, and only when tipping in...- Anticitizen1

Ped5Stang Used Parts!
Hi guys, don't mean to jump on someone's thread, but I may have some wood grain components in storage I'd be willing to part with, door panels, window switches, radio bezels, NOS floor mats etc. I just need to renew my Elite Status so I can create my own sale post, but wanted you guys to see...- Anticitizen1

98 EX, Locking Hub Questions
I may look into doing the Mile Marker hubs, definitely swapping to a disconnected front hub setup in the next few months. The 73 Mustang fastback is down for the count at the moment, so I think I'll turn my attention back to the truck. Hubs, Transgo Shift Kit and maybe Torque Monster Headers may...- Anticitizen1

Aggressive AT tire?
+1 For the Kuhmo Road Venture AT51's, I have a set in LT 245/75R16 and they have been wearing well! Think I'll get well into 65k+ miles before they're due for replacement.- Anticitizen1

Finding EE Sway Bar or having a custom bent up?
I've had the Hellwig 1" rear bar for several months, and I like it very much. I'd recommend it to anybody for an upgrade from a safety perspective alone.- Anticitizen1

2000 explorer what upgrades first
Start with the tuneup, then I'd say do the suspension. MOOG Urethane Sway Bar Bushings and Endlinks, Hellwig 1 Rear Sway Bar, do the bigger front bar too if 97 or older. This will SIGNIFICANTLY increase the handling capabilities of your truck, reduce the likelihood of a rollover, and you can...- Anticitizen1

Wanting to get rid of the chipped key, see post
My way around this was to wire in a programmable PATS bypass module along with my remote start unit I installed myself. Used on 2 different trucks and they work great, you use your key in the ignition and tap into the PATS and it reads and copies the signal, and permanently sends the signal to...- Anticitizen1

Transfer Case
I have a spare 4406 out of a '97 f150 sitting in my shop right now, I had it in my truck but changed it after chasing a vibration that ended up being a bad wheel bearing and an unbalanced front driveshaft. If you want to save yourself the hassle of pulling that other case and have one soon, I...- Anticitizen1

4.10s with 265/75 R16's and 5.0?
Is anybody currently running this configuration? (5.0/BW4406/4.10LS) I don't do much offroading anymore, but would like a slightly taller tire size than my LT245/75R16 tires I am currently running for the few times when I do go out. I currently have the stock 3.73 gear ratio and no lift, just 1"...- Anticitizen1

Rotor or wheel bearing?
You know what I actually missed that he said it was a 2WD truck. I'm from CT, the 2WD version is so rare up here I don't think I've ever seen one, guess that would change the type of wheel bearing. Still sounds like a bearing issue to me, thanks for pointing that out.- Anticitizen1

Rotor or wheel bearing?
I'm still definitely for the wheel bearing, been there done that more times than I'd like to remember haha. That said, bad tires can definitely cause many issues with noise vibration and harshness though, they're definitely worth checking any time those conditions are present. Tread wear, uneven...- Anticitizen1

Rotor or wheel bearing?
I'd say wheel bearing. I've fixed a lot of these over the years, will the humming above 40mph go away when turning left? If it does, it's probably the RIGHT hub bearing. By turning the opposite direction of the humming, it temporarily reduces the stress on the bearing and gives you a fairly...- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
It varies depending on the position I put it on, I believe a weight came off the front yoke of the shaft before I bought it. How the driveshaft shop didn't catch that I don't know, but it is to the point where it only becomes a mild hum above 85 mph or so. I also have the trans mount shimmed...- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
Ok thanks, I will probably go to this solution if I cannot resolve the issue with my truck. My issue seems to definitely be the driveshaft itself, as I tried the old school hot rod trick and put hose clamps on the front slip yoke for balance against a high spot I measured with my dial indicator...- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
For those who have converted to the AVM style manual hubs, how well do they hold up over time? I don't see many new retailers of these but do see a lot of the Rugged Ridge ones for sale...but I read some reports of the plastic components in these style hubs failing prematurely. Thanks!- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
Much appreciated! I may in fact end up using your method to integrate a new modified crossmember. As for my vibration, I had marked the diff side 1 and 2, and the T-Case side 1-2-3-4. I have started incrementally clocking the driveshaft 90 degrees at a time, starting by flipping the diff side 1...- Anticitizen1

I'm going to check my transmission mount as a precautionary measure, is there a heavier duty transmission mount that works for a non-lifted application or are we pretty much stuck with OEM equipment?- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
No I certainly don't want to, the driveshaft has spent more time in my garage then in the truck. I was just observing it seems a lot of people have been living with this vibration for some time, and while it is not good, I haven't heard anyone saying they have broken any components as of yet...- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
Is the length on that shaft useable with the factory slip yoke? I may try this to see if it helps my cause. It sounds like nobody has flat out broken a shaft or ujoint as a result yet, so worst case scenario if I cannot resolve the vibration I may just take the lesser of two evil shafts and then...- Anticitizen1

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question

Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
Welp gentlemen, I currently have a 4406 and a 4405 currrently sitting on my shop floor along with an AWD CV driveshaft, I think I'll be doing some evil genius scheming and might just rip those suckers apart and see if on fits into the other. Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
I've never taken apart or looked at the exploded view diagrams of the BW4406/BW4405, but does anyone know if the CV joint on the 4405 can be loaded into a 4406 case? Similar production era and design, there might be a possibility there and then build a driveshaft to fit.- Anticitizen1

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
Hey Swigin, have you had any issue with your BW4406 and vibration? So I had the front driveshaft balanced, all...- Anticitizen1

intake spacer egr tube????

Suspension Help
Anytime man! Another thing that came to mind for lifting is doing a spring over conversion.
