    Time is a factor, unfortunately. I am holding out hope that PATS was optional for the donor explorer. I haven't found anything definitive that says PATS was standard for the 98 model year, which means I have to wait for the key to be mailed to me by the guy I am doing the work for.

    Long story short. I am helping someone get a 5.0l drivetrain working in a 1990 Bronco II. The donor explorer allegedly did not use a PATS key to run. I did see the donor explorer run and drive, I just can't recall what the key looked like. I was just wondering if PATS was optional...
