    No theories I'm afraid I have no ideas or theories as to the "why", just real observations when I used it.     Acetone *reduces* the MPG on both my Explorers I have a 1991 EB 4x4 and a 1998 XLT 2x4, and adding 2-3 ozs of acetone to every 10 gals of gasoline actually REDUCED my average by 3-5 mpg in both vehicles. YMMV....
