Mine came off and I'm looking for a replacement. This is the little black plastic cap where the power antenna comes through. Does anyone know the part number or when I can get one...

Previous one was a '00 Mountaineer... One friend has a 97 like mine, but 2WD and the other is a 99.

It had about 110K on it at the time... Probably 7-8 months ago.

They can be adjusted.. it's easier to do it by removing the rear rotors and adjusting from there... The parking brake shoes are also known for coming apart prematurely... If you can do basic brakes, you should have no problem fixing this issue.

I bought my 97 X Eddie Bauer 5.0 AWD for $3800 and put over $1500 in parts to replace what was bad or just to catch up on maintanance, and even at that price... this truck is worth every dime.

I've been in many 5 liter explorers and had one previously that never made any leaking sounds.

I replaced my drivers side manifold with a Dormans unit on my 97 5.0 X the day I bought it... Well, the fugger still leaked and the weld quality really sucked... So a couple weeks later I warrantied out the manifold and got a new one... The gasket was not leaking and all bolts were tight... so...

Thanks. I found them on www.fordparts.com cheaper... Do you have any idea what the ford part numbers are for both the left and right cowl vents? So I can search for the cheapest price on the interweb. :)

The passanger side washer nozzle clips are broken on mine, and the drivers side is about to fall off lol. I need to find a new cowl... or a good used one. Any idea where to get them new? I really hate buying junkyard parts.... Nick

No it doesn't. It's not a hub bearing problem. Sounds like something maybe in the front diff. It actually only makes the noise between 15-20 mph.

I run Monroe Reflex and their nice. But it still rides like a 2nd Gen Explorer... I dunno if anything can fix that :D

I've replaced the LF hub bearing already... twice... Cause it sounds just like a hub bearing... But the noise is only heard from 15-25 MPH... a LOUD roar... Any ideas? Like I said, it's an AWD 5.0 Explorer EB. Nick

Agreed. Number 4 plug wire can be a ***** to route correctly, but make sure to route it correctly. You won't need to do plugs and wires for a long time and taking the extra time to route the wires correctly will help keep them from chafing or getting cut on anything. Nick

I don't have patients. When I replaced the upper ball joints on my 97 AWD 5.0 I sawzaw'd the drivers side upper control arm bolts. I put adjustable cam bolts in so I could get the alignment perfect... so no need to reuse the old bolts. Nick

Well, I took the 1-2 Accumulator out... and bottom spring is broken into about 5 pieces! Gunna replace the piston and both springs to be safe! Thanks so much ExplorerForum! Even with my automotive experience, I would have never figured this one out! Nick

This is a nice write up. I'm a very experiance mechanic and have done these many times. Easiest thing to get them out is just to hammer them out. To put them in, the ball joint press will work, you just have to use a piece of flat stock instead of the stepped adapter. Works perfect...
