So my wife wants to trade in here 01 Explorer V6 w/ 134k miles for a 04 Lincoln Aviator V8 37k miles. Lincoln Aviator is the same size as the Exlorers.

What do you think the differance in MPG, Power, and overall quality will be? And after 01 Ford changes there body style and made the Explorer wider. Did they also improve the short life span ball joints?

There is a significant difference between 2001 and 2002+ Explorers (and Aviators).
Re quality, I'm no expert but heard that Lincoln's reliability is rated much higher than Ford.
Aviator looks great and I'm sure these days you can get a very good deal on pretty much anything with more than 4 cylinders!
In terms of MPG there is very little difference between Ford's V6 and V8 engines.

the Aviator uses a 302hp 4v 4.6L V8 that requires premium grade, where as the Ex/mounty us a 239hp 2v 4.6L V8.

Aviator is also slightly heavier.
