i joined this site last week and did a search for 4we problems. Found some ideas and now i cannot find them again.

any way is a 2001 4.0 v6 auto 4wd sport. Has the knob on the dash to select 2hi 4 hi and 4 lo. Dash indicator lights to not change with the knob. Dash indicator lights do not light when the key is turned on. Checked the fuses and all seemed fine, both on the side of the dash and in the power block under the hood.

what should i check next.

Thanks

I'd probably do the following...

1. With switch in two high, car running, in neutral, foot on brake, turn the switch to 4 hi or 4lo...see if you get a 4hi or 4 Lo light. If not...

2. Jack up the back two wheels off the ground. Switch in 4 hi, start the car, put it in drive and slowly begin to release the brake. If 4wd is working it will try to move forward so again keep your foot ready to brake. If the back wheels spin and you go nowhere...

3. Find the brown wire coming out of the transfer case into the large square black plug. Remove just this wire from the plug on the transfer case side. Or leave it plugged in and use a splicer and a piece of wire to connect that brown wire to the positive terminal on the battery. Iirc, This should give you 4wd no matter what the switch position. Repeat step 2. If you have 4wd at this point, then I am guessing your 4wd module is bad.

In the future when you find a helpful thread, look towards the right side just above the first post on the page. You'll see the words "Thread Tools", left click on it and then click on "Subscribe to this Thread" in the drop down list. Follow the simple steps on the next page and you will add it to your own list of "Subscribed Threads".

To find your "Subscribed Threads" look closer to the top of the page where your log in information is. To the left of the "Logout" button you'll see "Quick Links", left click on it and scroll down to "Subscribed Threads"

I can't help with the 4WD problems but I know others will.

Good Luck,
Dan
