I have a 2000 Explorer 4 Door (4WD, 4.0l SOHC, 5 Spd Auto) that is absolutely mint condition body-wise but has an engine with thrown timing and internal damage.
I also have a 2001 Explorer Sport 2 Door (4WD, 4.0l SOHC, 5 Spd Auto) that is an absolute rust bucket but has a strong engine / transmission.
Any issue swapping engine/transmission from an 01 sport to an 00 explorer? Special tools needed? I'm not a total gearhead but consider myself capable. Two weeks ago I spent a day pulling, rebuilding and reinstalling the turbo in my VW Jetta TDI. I have a jack, jackstands, ramps, metric/sae sockets, vise grips, etc but no specialty tools and have never done an engine swap. I'd have to run out and grab an engine hoist. I fully expect this to be a huge pain in the rear since I don't have a garage, will have to do it outdoors and my driveway has a slight incline.
