My 6 disc changer reads cd error, Can i switch it out with the xlt single cd/ cassette radio unit? Who repairs the factory unit other than having the "stealership" send it out?

You can check ebay, there is a company that rebuilds them for $90 plus $15 shipping. My cd pack (the changer portion of the radio) went out about 6 months ago. Instead of having mine rebuilt for $105 I just bought a rebuilt Lincoln unit for $109. That way I can swap the cd pack into my ford unit and sell the Lincoln unit as non-working, maybe get $20 back on the deal. Less than the rebuild and a lot quicker.

However, search around here for clearing cd errors, it might be a simple fix, or not. Mine had jammed cds. Replacing the cd pack is extremely easy, I'll post a write-up when I get the replacement in a few days.

As far as will the cd/tape combo work....it should for audio but if you have a DVD or sub you very well might lose those.

Adding: Of course, if I find the replacement head unit I'm really looking for I might sell the whole lot

Mine had an "aftermarket" SONY cd-r in it that would not eject causing the error. Once I removed the "aftermarket" cd-r from the player and put everything back together it works great as designed. My point is, are you sure that there are no CD's in the player?

If not search this forum (what i did) for the photos on how to remove the unit and open the unit and remove any stuck cd's and give her a try with a good copyrighted cd. I had success. I tried to go back and find the post but couldn't in the short time I have right now. Good luck.
