I have a 02 ford explorer sport trac with 4.0. I've been trying to fix my distribution as it's stuck in defrost mode currently and my first thought was check for vacuum leaks. I check in the dash around the control panel and didn't seem to find any issues. So time to check the engine bay.. I looked everywhere and happen to find this red line here(pics below) on the passenger side that went down and connected to a split with a black line on the other side of the split going down into a.. Valve I believe(pic below) and the other end of it was melted so I cut the melted end off and then I looked on the driver and happen to notice 2 more red lines(pic below) that would go into the intake, these two were also melted as well. It almost seems like these lines connected at some point but something happened. I just can't figure were they exactly connected or if they have anything to do with the A/C being stuck on defrost. Anyone have any idea?

I checked my '02 Sport Trac, and one red vacuum line connects to the EGR vacuum regulator - the part with the round top at the bottom of your 2nd pic. The line comes into the bottom right as you stand in front of the truck. You are correct about the hose on the passenger side. I didn't check any more since my engine is still warm and it's getting dark. Without being there myself, I'd guess one of the cut/broken lines connects to the one you're holding in the first pic, and the other connects to the EGR vacuum regulator.
