Have anyone heard about this one. I read in 4-Wheel and Offroad that the 02 Chevy Trailblazer has a recall for imroper welding of the body, around the third seat. Heres the good part, for affected vehicles GM is offering to replace the the vehicle or refund the money and take back the vehicle. I think this is a good reason to have bought a Ford.

Here you go

General Motors Has Recalled the 2002
Chevrolet Trailblazer and Envoy

(SafetyAlerts) - General Motors Has Recalled the
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer and Envoy because of
a potential for missing welds.

Manufactured: 02/2002 - 09/2002

Defect Summary:
CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES ARE MISSING WELDS ON THE REAR FLOOR PLAN.

Consequence Summary:
IN A CRASH, MISSING WELDS COULD DEGRADE PERFORMANCE OF THE THIRD ROW SEAT AND SAFETY BELT ANCHORAGE AND OCCUPANTS COULD RECEIVE GREATER INJURIES.

Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR MISSING
WELDS. IF MISSING WELDS ARE FOUND, GM WILL
EXCHANGE THE VEHICLE FOR AN EQUIVALENT VEHICLE OR PROVIDE A REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 4, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020 OR GMC AT 1-800-462-8782.

Oh yea, and if you're Trailblazer is rolling on Firestone's... LOL

At least GM is replacing the whole vehicle. I am impressed with that.

Unfortunately, if this happened to a Ford vehicle, Ford would adamantly deny any knowledge of it and wouldn't offer any type of replacement.

I have to agree with Hartman.

me too. they would try to fix it as cheaply as possible

they would just put out a TSB to be repaired at our expense...

the description would say..

MISSING WELDS UNDER THIRD ROW SEAT.
FIX: TELL OWNER THEIR VEHICLE IS FINE AND THAT IS THE NATURE OF THE VEHICLE

O, so when and if they rearend someone, the thrid row becomes the first, I like that idea! ;):D

the trailblazers have been plagued with recalls since they have been introduced. good idea that just needed more R&D. gotta love an inline 6 that lays down 270 hp, though. if i were in the market for one, i would look for an 04 or 05 model. by that time, maybe they will have all of the issues worked out.

and Stephen/Hartman, i agree completely.

I agree with hartman..... But i would never go against FORD... BUILT FORD TOUGH!

dont the trailblazers also come with the inline 5 cylinder motors? When I lived up in michigan we took a tour of a GM motor development place in Saginaw and they were casting 5 cylinder blocks there.

Wasn't this the same motor and truck that had engine fires? My friend was looking at buying a Trailblazer, and I'm glad he picked an Explorer.

I had a similar problem in a '92 Dodge Daytona ES. There was a recall for insufficient welding from the front floor pan to the frame rails. The parts in the recall were something like 40 bolts, lock washers and nuts. 1 drill bit and a can of primer and undercoating. I guess when all else fails bolt that mother together and get that lawsuit rolling on the road ASAP.

that is for the new S10 replacement, the Colorado. they will have 5 and 4 cyl. motors based on the 6'er of the trailblazer. basically, take an awesome inline six, lob off one or two cylinders to get a 5 or 4 cyl. smart thinking if you ask me.

Just did a little calculation, and if they were to add 2 cylinders to the 4.0L, we'd have cheby's 5.3:eek:

Don't ask me why this has anything to do with this thread, but i thought it was interesting!
