I'm not really sure if this meets criteria for this forum or not, but looking at some of the other posts, I feel better about it. No, I'm not in dire need to go to my girlfriend's, but until I get my X back, I can't work, I do work with my X. My X is OOC, although being worked on, but the issue here is that I might not be able to pay for the repairs for a little bit, the guy at the dealership is blaming the repairs on my aftermarket alarm, which would not allow my warranty to cover it. My question here, I wanted to see if anyone knew if the remote start wire, that connects to the ignition coils (I believe) could cause the coils to go bad. Sorry, I have a viper alarm, remote start installed, the wire that connects to the coils was laying against the manifold, melted through, and thus the conclusion that it was the cause. A little background in my doubt, the same wire has melted through before, and just wouldn't allow my remote start to operate. Next, I took the X through the car wash, and after that happened, it was really in bad shape, seemed like a cylinder was misfiring to me. I got it home, got out of the X, it shut off by itself, and I heard a sizzle, saw and smelled smoke. (not good) In any event, would not start after that. Any help on that would be appreciated. Thanks.

it could have been the wire. or it could have been just a crappy coilpack(s). my moms stock 2000 F150 has needed 5 so far. first one went under 20k miles.
