I've read through this forum for several days now and although there is a lot of great information, it seems that the issue I'm having could be caused by numerous things.

About 1 month ago, I started noticing some sort of odd noise, which I thought may have been in the engine bay, but now think it might be transmission related. It sounds like some sort of pump cycling, and most often occurs when I am initially accelerating. I've owned this truck since new and it has 95k miles now. I think the transmission has always been clunky, but it still seems to shift fine. I am now getting a check transmission light and flashing o/d now. Local transmission shop diagnosed it as tcc system stuck off and wants to do a tear down.

This weekend, I dropped the pan and inspected. Some fine metallic gunk on the magnet, but no pieces.

Could the pump noise be related? Does this provide any clues as to how to go about fixing this problem? I think I'll replace the solenoid pack, but don't want to waste money. I am fairly adept mechanically, so I'll dive in to about anything.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

welcome,
if you can find out what codes are being pulled it might help determine whats wrong and what can be fixed. But with 95k on the clock with a bad noise, i hate to say it but the best thing might be a rebuild. Mine went at 50k with a noise on 2-3 shift, more like a whirring noise and soon after something snapped, then the Flashing O/D, Chk Trans on the message center. It turned out the snap ring on the 2-3 Planetary snapped and allowed it to grind down the drum it sits in. Only way to get to that part is to remove and completely take it apart to replace the planatary. Usually if you have to go to that much trouble you might as well put it back together with new parts (Master Rebuild Kit). After which its better than new. . and good for another 100k. . imho.

P0741 Torque Converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off

The message from bjenkins is actually from me, didn't realize I had 2 accounts.

Anyway, P0741 according to Edwards Transmissions and of course they want to do a remove and inspect and probably rebuild.

I considered replacing the solenoid pack, filter and maybe valve body since they're not too expensive and doesn't look like a difficult job, but I don't want to waste the time and money if this isn't likely to fix my issue.

Any thoughts?
