2003 Explorer XLT 4X4
Hello Everyone,

I've been stalking around the forums for awhile and they have been a great help. However I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for in the search function so forgive me if this has been answered ( should be an easy answer)

I just replaced the engine in my 03 Explorer XLT thanks to these 4.0 liter SOHC's being engineered by third graders ( I mean my god, how Stupid do you have to be to think putting plastic INSIDE an engine is a good idea?) but I digress.

I've got the swap done and everything buttoned up and ready to go. The only problem I'm having is finding where the Fuel Vapor Hose that's hooked to the EVAP Canister Purge Valve. Picked up a spare that runs to the gas tank with the steel line from the junk yard this morning (the one that was on it had warn nearly completely in half from rubbing on what looks like the steering knuckle) So I know where that line goes.

It's the other line, not the bottom vacuum line but the other Fuel Vapor Hose that is supposed to run from the Purge Valve to the Upper Intake. I cannot for the life of me find where this hose attaches onto the intake. I'm anxious and ready to finally get this thing back on the road, and this is the last road block to firing her up.

Does anybody know where this damn line attaches? Thank you guys for all your help, Lance

2003 4.0L SOHC configuration may be different. Would think intake port location would be same.
OEM "S" hose shown first pic. Replacement 3/8" fuel injection hose reusing fittings second pic.

Pics removed to prevent confusion. Great pics kryhavoc! :chug:

Thanks for the reply swshawaii, unfortunately the 2003 has a completely different upper intake than any previous year model. The engine I put in came from a wrecked 02 sport and the intakes look nothing alike. Here's a pic of what my upper intake looks like - a large box with two vacuum ports by the drivers rear. One for the many various things that need vacuum (EGR ect...) all tee'd into one large port, and a port next to it for the brake booster

Well, I would show you but I can't figure out how to upload a picture. Are you not allowed to on this forum???

Here's a link to a piece of piping with an elbow I found that I had yet to install, it appears that the line connects to this but I can't find where the other end of the tubing and elbow attach. The tubing with elbows is the second picture in the first post of the thread on this link

Of course in that thread they say the tubing runs to the PCV valve, however on my 03 the PCV runs directly from the back of the driverside valve cover to the intake by a piece of hose thats no more than 5" long. That long tube very well could have come off of the 02 that I tore down to put into the 03.

yeah, my evap canister purge valve is on the driverside next to the brake booster. What I see in your picture appears to be the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid

This is VERY similar if not identical to my upper intake

Really need some help guys, I'm dying to get this thing going. Busted my butt on it for the last month and half, a one man job engine swap is no fun

Kryhavoc those are amazing, thank you thank you thank you

If I could ask one favor of you if you can find the time?

The uppermost Fuel Vapor line coming off of the purge valve in picture one - Is there anyway you could trace that line to where it attaches on the other end? If you could do that it would solve all my problems (and the crazy headache I've given myself searching high and low for this stuff all day :))

You're a life saver brother

i have uploaded one more picture... if i am correct in thinking you are looking for the large 3/8s ish size hose. it connects to the intake under the IAC in the middle of the picture i just uploaded. there is a small vacuum hose union in the picture near the "cap" looking part of the EGR control solenoid.

Oh man you nailed it. Thank you so much. I noticed that vac line near the IAC but the hose coming off of it wasnt the same size as the Fuel Evap hose (and they didnt seem to reach) but thats it. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you kryhavoc

These forums are invaluable
