03 sport trac idles low and lights dim help

When sitting at a light my sport trac makes a ticking noise and almost stalls and the lights dim. If you turn on the heater fan it does this every 5 or 6 seconds but never has stalled. No check engine light or anything but this is not normal. always have a ticking sound and then the engine slows down under 1000 rpm's and the dash and headlights dim. Anyone help with this

Check your Idle Air Control(IAC) valve. On my 2000 Limited when the weather is colder it doesn't function properly sometime when I start it. And I just hit it with a screw driver and it starts working.

Also if it is the IAC valve. Cleaning it may help.
