We have a 2004 Explorer XLT 4.0 V6. Been hearing a knocking sound when making a left hand turn or swerving left on winding roads. It has gotten worse to where it can be felt in the steering wheel and sometimes when going straight as well.

Tires are approx 6 mos old and show no signs of abnormal wear but rotated anyway to be sure...

We have had our fair share of bearrings go on us and this does not sound like all of the other ones did.... also we never had any noticeable driveability issues with the bearrings besides the hoerible noise!

Thank you.... replaced both sides and although there is some improvement while driving straight we still have the issue as soon as I turn the wheel the slightest bit to the left

Also replaced sway bar bushings on both sides.... still no luck.... really out of ideas here

I would check the upper and lower ball joints and control arm bushings and tie rods. If your feeling it in the steering, I suspect one of those being the culprit.

Cant believe that I am still posting on this thread but here i am! Changed everything mentioned above plus CV.... had an alignment, changed wheel bearing assembly, and still the same thing! Feels like the wheel could fall off if you are turning the wheel far enough to the left

Have you purged the power steering?

Have you purged the power steering?

That we haven't done and only because although it happens while steering we do not feel anything in the steering wheel itself.... there is no jumping at all.... we were thinking rack and pinion problems but none of the symptoms seemed to match.
