- 2005 Ford Explorer XLT V6
I recently purchased a 2005 Ford Explorer V6 and was convinced the A/C needed a recharge. This is my first Explorer but not my first car nor my first experience with refrigerant.
Anyway after adding a tall can of refrigerant I noticed immediately the pipes were ice cold and the compressor began cycling on and off in short intervals (which I assume is normal) but when I got in the truck on the roof vents in the back 2 rows were blowing cold air, like really cold air, but all the vents in the front dash as well as the floor vents for the back seat (the ones attached to the center console) are all still blowing out Luke warm, almost fully hot air as if the heat was on.
My wife also noticed that there is a good amount of warmth coming from somewhere under the hood that leaks out to our feet up front (generally coming from behind and beneath the radio housing) but mostly when I try to run the air.
I’ve had a couple people give me insight but their suggestions go from minor to over the top and they still can’t guarantee it will fix the problem. Most people said just add some smaller cans of refrigerant and that should do the trick but other people warned me that could damage the compressor. So I haven’t bled any lines or added anything more since..
So here I am looking for advice from people who know a thing or two about Explores lol.
Thanks in advance.
