All 4.0l 4wd ford explorers have balance shafts. Also you may not want to post you vin number.

You know the engine has to come out but it may not be an issue for you.
Welcome and good luck. Keep us posted.

fordtechmakuloco on youtube has an awesome 4 part video on a full timing job for the 4.0 sohc, as a mechanic the video will show you how its done for the rest of us its pretty good at making people disown ford and run for the hills and you can put the balance shaft back in the block without the chain and have no problems... that was a huge discussion in multiple threads as to why there was 2 different 4.0 blocks one for 2wd and one for 4wd and if the shaft did anything and if you could put a mustang or 2wd truck engine into a 4wd or vise versa and also nothing happens..... welcome to the labyrinth of chains that require engine removal and a $200 timing tool

What could someone possibly do with your VIN?

I’d order all factory parts. This is a big, ridiculous job. Surely not something you want to do twice because you tried to save a few bucks.

I was told all the 4.0 ohc blocks were all the same except the balance shaft
I have read lots of people who just remove the chain and leave the shaft in place with no problems

So what you need is a forge that can melt a lot of aluminum and a ton of sand so you can make a mold, then you need wood to make the box to hold sed sand. But use the old guide as the template and it may take up to 100 to 200 cans, but don't worry that is easy if you know where a dump is, also don't worry the rage normal when making the sand mold. So now you have the mold you have to melt the cans, now pour the mold slowly not to splatter and not to fast to leave air pockets. Let it cool and vwala you have a 16.2% chance it will never blow up again.

JUST KIDDING ;)

Well to be honest on another thread thats what was said I dont remember why. But it probally doesnt matter either way..

I can’t think of anything. It’s not like it’s a secret number. Anyone can get it from the outside of your locked vehicle.

If I had the VIN i could add some insurance to your vehicle or talk to one of my cop friends and become your stalker
