I have a stock 06 Explorer with 56,000 miles on it. Lately it has had a rough idle in park. Sometimes if I get out of it and get back in it will be off. I took it to my Ford Dealer and they said the Throttle body needed to be cleaned. After 56,000 miles should this need to be done? They wanted $130 to clean it. Can I do this myself? Thanks.

Cleaning the TB is very simple. Its just a matter of taking the air intake off, disconnecting the electrical connections on the throttle body and the unbolting the throttle body. Once disconnected you will notice a great amount of oil blowby on the housing and blades, just use some throttle body cleaner and get her good and clean. I took mine off and cleaned it when the truck had about 45K miles on it and it was filthy, cleaning it will certainly help your rough idle issue.

Before and after cleaning.
It's easy to do this by yourself!
