So I thought it was an after market alarm but after reading this
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/jmcdo28/2008-12-30_042008_base.pdf
I'm pretty sure it's a VSS, vehicle security system because the install pictures fit what I have to a tee. The LED on the drivers side, the security module in the drivers side dash with only the 24 pin connector hooked up.
Trouble is it goes off for no apparent reason.
Any ideas?

Well it is aftermarket, it's made by Code Alarm, and it was a dealer option.
Do you have the door ajar light on? There are several threads on that issue...

Thanks for clearing up it's an 'add on'. A tech on one of those pay-for-an-answer sites said the same thing and that's why it was just shoved in behind the dash rather than being mounted, because it was an add on but wasn't really made for it.

Nope no 'door ajar' light, I did lube em' though WD40.

I'm thinking it's a battery issue, because as of now it appears I've been able to turn it off. But if I disconnect the battery and reconnect it the alarm is activated again.

I read the service tear down report and they said the battery had low voltage but didn't do anything about it, so I cleaned the terminals, cleaned the corrosion, and took about an 1hr dive down the interstate and the voltage seems to stay at 12VDC with the rig off. So I'll give it about a week and see what happens before I stick the horn fuse back in.

Since this was an add on, I wonder if I could just swapp the current security module for the original anti-thief/keyless entery one?

No idea what would be involved in adding an OEM anti theft module, what you can do is go to an alarm shop and have them check your wiring, there might be something loose, missing, etc..

Any ideas??

I'm thinking this add on alarm (made for Ford but not by Ford) is reseting itself once it's lost power and then regained it? :dunno:

Since the rig is used I had to clean some corrosion off the battery and it seems every time I disconnected the battery and hooked it back up the alarm would start going off.

I'm thinking maybe the battery wasn't fully charged due to transport and sitting on the lot.

you can take that add on alarm out and stay with the factory keyless entry. find brain and follow wires, disconnect them. done.

Well guess it's not the battery, it rearmed itself again this morning. Only goes off when I unlock the doors with the key fob.
I found the security brain but the wiring diagram has allot to do with the ignition kill and whatnot. Because I thought of just pulling it out as well, I just don't want to disable the whole vehicle.

That's why I'm thinking they put the security module in place of the keyless entry module.

As thought I pulled the VSS module and the truck wouldn't start...

they hooked up the starter kill. you need to reconnect that wire. the others should only be tapped into not cut. the only wire that should be cut is the starter wire at the steering column harness. worse comes to worse take it to a shop to be removed. they are more trouble than they are worth. if you really need an alarm, take that out and get a good aftermarket alarm and remote start system.

James the keyless entry would remain in place, this is just an aftermarket alarm added to your truck, not meant to replace what's currently in place.

I've never had any issues with Code Alarm, per my buddy who owns a shop, it is a good system if it is installed properly.
You can go to an alarm shop and have them assess the instalation modules relays etc.

I'm still debating taking it back and having them fix it or as you say just take it out. But I'm also interested in the factory remote start.
I had an 06' XLT awhile ago and had an aftermarket alarm installed and wasn't to impressed. They wanted to nickel & dime to death to keep all the factory convenience features.
That's why I really don't want to go aftermarket.

id take it out. do it yourself. gett he factory add on remote start with the one button remote. you can do it yourself. the part number is 7l2z-19g365-aa. it comes with everything you need including bypass for key. You need to plug in the ignition harness for remote start and tap park lights, brake and ground it. you are then done and have remote start.

Damm it!

I made it a week and a half and the alarm went off again unexplainable.

I did notice for what ever reason when I hit the unlock button on the key fob all the doors unlocked (rather than just drivers), alarm went off.

Normally hit the unlock button once for drivers door, again all doors. So there's a problem there. Still alarm was off (LED next to light switch wasn't flashing) so wondering why it went off?
