My 07 Explorer recently had its transmission rebuilt, since this time the 4x4 & 4x4 Low light on the dashboard do not light up- Even at startup (test) This worked before the transmission was rebuilt ( i tested it one day before it went to my mechanic for the rebuild)

Despite this, the 4x4 does seem to be working. When the 4x4 low button is pressed the light on the button blinks and then goes solid as it should & the powertrain seems to be doing its job, you hear the audible click from under the center console ( relay? ) and the truck feels to be in 4lo. When this is in engaged the traction control light illuminates on the dash- but not the "4x4 Low" light.

The 4x4 high i think also works but i am not sure about that one since it doesn't make any audible clicks and unlike 4lo it isnt more "jumpy"

I Have also noticed that the TPMS light doesnt illuminate during its startup test & so i am wondering if these two things could be related..

What do you guys think ?

Sounds like some of the wires could have gotten damaged when they removed the transmission/transfer case and need to be inspected. I would let the shop know that did the work since it was all working before they did their repair and they should be willing to look at it and verify it is working properly for you free of charge.

Took it back to the mechanic (which is a local guy that i used before for similar work back when i had my 2002 ex.) He says it's the transfer case.. supposed to have it back by friday(he's doing it on the side).

Before i brought it to him for the original issue (Tranny Whine until like 4thGear Then Stopped) I checked the 4wd and the light illuminated in the dash so i figured it was working. He informed me that the transfer case was disabled ? Now he says he enabled it and it's making a bad noise, the oil in it was black and basically it needs to be replaced (WHY WOULDNT HE HAVE NOTICED THIS WHEN HE WAS FIXING THE TRANNY???) considering i never heard the noise & he was the one who rebuilt the tranny does this sound right ?

Also, I don't know what was done to the truck up until this point as I just bought it about a month ago and have only driven it a handful (spent most of its time so far at the shop) (Yes I knew about the tranny issue when i bought it, but it was cheap, but maybe not cheap enough lol)
