1,200 miles, run over a rock, need a new tire....

how does that work? these tires cant handle running over a rock?

Depends on the rock. What part of the tire got punctured and how long/far did you drive afterward?

was a fairly large gash, much bigger than i expected. took it to a second repair shop, they removed tire, and patched it from the inside. its holding for now, doubt it makes it 20-30k.

There are very large gaps in the tire, very wide, i guess for snow. These are the hankooks. Makes it very easy for large debris on the road to lodge / cut.
