My '14 Explorer Sport has a current draw with the engine off. Last week the A/C just stopped blowing cold all of a sudden. Blower fan still worked, just blowing hot. I live in Texas and it's getting hot so it has sat since then and I finally had a chance to look at it today.

Battery voltage with the cables connected was only 3.5V. Pull the cable and it goes up to 4.5V. I pulled every fuse and relay from the power distribution box in the engine compartment with the cable connected and voltage never went up from 3.5.

In looking at the manual the only fuse in the interior fuse box I see related to the A/C seems to be the climate control module so I'll try that next but wasn't sure if that would just affect the A/C and not the fan and vent controls.

Any A/C-related circuits that don't go through the power distribution box or interior fuse panel?

Thanks,
Kevin

Welcome to the Forum Kevin.
Is the AC compressor kicking in? Several issues reported here concerning not blowing cold have been related to a non-working compressor, low refrigerant or blend door actuators but none have reported a current drain. Are you sure the battery itself is good?

Looks like the battery is no good after being discharged so deeply as it won't take a charge now, but it is a fairly new Interstate. It's my wife's daily driver and hadn't been having any starting or battery issues up til now. Basically A/C stopped blowing cold then a few days later it would not start (dash did light up). Then when I went to go look at it several days after that the dash wouldn't even light up and battery was at 3.5V. So the draw on the battery seemed to coincide with the A/C trouble.

The battery did charge up enough to turn on the computer and the current draw seems to be gone at the moment so looks like some intermittent electrical issue but I need to go get a new battery so see if the A/C is working now that the power draw is gone or not.

It's sad, this is the most expensive vehicle I've purchased and it's been nothing but a POS. It's got 80k on it and so far had a seatbelt lock up, upholstery is coming off the top of the front door panels, CV axle went out, cam phaser broke, then the other cam phaser broke and took the timing chain with it, entertainment/Nav system sometimes just turns off and you have to restart the car to get it going, and now this.

Ours is out of warranty obviously so I just fixed the door panels with 3M trim and upholstery spray adhesive.

Turned out the A/C discharge hose was leaking and the mysterious current draw is no longer present.
