1991 4.0L Aerostar. My A/C compressor is no good. I want to install a smaller belt.

I am in the middle of water pump replacement on my 91 4.0. Old belt broke. Replaced it in the dark. Belt broke before I got home. Bought yet another belt the next day. That's when I discovered "wobbly" water pump.

My question is, Can I just eliminate the a/c compressor and go with the belt listed for this vehicle w/o a/c. Listed both ways.

Sure would be more room under there w/o a/c. It doesn't work and if the compressor quits turning I wouldn't have to replace it for the belt to work.

My A/C compressor seized recently, and ripped the belt. I installed the smaller belt to bypass the compressor, and it's fine. They make an idler pulley which goes in place of the compressor if you want to use the regular size belt, but it's not necessary. Just install the smaller non A/C belt.

I found the smaller belt on EBay for around $13. Autozone wanted around $29 plus tax. As far as quality, I didn't look at the Autozone belt, but the one from EBay seems fine. It was a little on the thin side compared to other belts I've used in the past.

I buy quite a few parts online. Mostly EBay. I just ordered a bearing for the idler for $2 something, free shipping. Also found Autocraft fan clutch $29 includes shipping. Have to wait a couple of days but that's ok.

I eliminated a/c compressor and used belt for no a/c and worked perfect. Didn't order belt online because I hadn't really found idler brg was bad and also fan clutch wobbly.

Be back on the road soon.................

Autozone. The choice was $27 or $29 plus tax. Had to buy it to try to get home. Didn't make it but managed to drive the last mile with no belt.

Working on it at home much better that Walmart parking lot.
