1991 Chinook Aerostar. I'm looking for help with engine parts.

I ran synthetic 10W40(Castrol Edge mostly) on my 4.0 Eddie Bauer and NEVER an issue up to 230,000 miles. I will not run conventional oil nowadays unless the engine leaks badly.don-ohio (:^)

Nice Chinook!

Looks good!

Hello folks, I'm Michael Pahl and I've just taken over the Aerostar Chinook "Return to previous Glory" project from David. I'm having the engine put back together and will get the van up and moving on it's own power once again. Any suggestions on the leaky steering rack problem that doesn't involve a lot of money would be appreciated. Does anyone know if having the engine out would make replacing the steering rack any easier or are we talking apples and oranges here? Remember, it's AWD - Thanks ahead of time, Michael :aerostar:in San Diego

Welcome to this forum. The steering rack, if it is just a leaky seal you can buy a rebuild kit that has all the seals.

Update

Brooklyn Bay - still plotting and scheming about what I want to do. I've had it towed over to my house (nice dent in the bottom of the slider - thanks tow guy!) and have been deciding what to do. At first I was going to remove the roof and put it on my 95 XLT but now I'm having a problem with my conscious about destroying such a rare vehicle. With this in mind, I'm leaning toward putting it back together and getting it up and functionable once again.
