Hello, I attained the above mentioned vehicle in April 2022 from its one previous owner— who I personally know. Shortly after I got the car, I started hearing a rattling noise from the front part of the engine compartment. This noise is intermittent and it does only occur in reverse or drive. It seems to come and go, and I am trying to find out the route of it. Any suggestions on where to start or does anyone know where to find a self Diag instruction For the 95? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check the heat shields on the cats.

Does it rattle in gear with the truck stopped? Or only when moving? Or both?

As mentioned, heat shields are the number 1 rattler on these things. I had one take a quarter sized piece of downpipe along with it. Pain in the ass.

Hello, thank you so much for your response. I think I found the problem. It does rattle when it’s stopped, can’t really hear when it’s going however, it was more pronounced in reverse and drive in addition, definitely more pronounced when the AC clutch was kicking in. I’ve only discovered yesterday that I believe it is the tensioner pulley for the drive belt, when additional torque is put on the engine, the arm which holds the pulley out for tension is not held tight enough by the spring mechanism, , and it knocks against itself. I really appreciate this for him being here though it makes all the difference in the world. Thanks again.

Great suggestion and thanks so much for your reply. I think I found the culprit. The tensioner pulley for the drive belt seems to be wearing out when additional torque is put on the engine the spring is wearing out and it’s cluttering against itself. Appreciate your reply thanks again.
