I have a 96 V6 with 116,000 miles on it. Check engine came on. I gave it to a local mechanic who read it and says it was an O2sensor but he diagnostic machine wouldnt say which one. There were 4 according to him.
He told me take it to ford. He reset computer and it went away for a long time about 30k miles.

It just came back on, If I take it to autozone to have it read will they tell me which sensor is bad, or must I replace all. How many O2 sensors does this car have.

By the code they give you you'll be able to determine which sensor is bad. My V8 has four and I'm pretty sure the V6s do too.

Even if he is just able to give yout the code you should be able to search for it here and find which one it is.

Where in NJ are you? If you are in the NW part of the state I know a mechanic who has the diagnostic tools to fix.

I thought the 4.0 OHV had 3 O2's. 2 Pre-cat on the Y-pipe, and one post cat.

I thought only the SOHC's from 1997- current and the V8's had 4.

I could be wrong though.
