96 explorer wont shift to 2 gear unless i let lff the gas whats up

1996 Explorer. The transmission only changes gears when I ease off of the throttle pedal.

If you have to rev it really high for it to shift, I agree it sounds like a band issue. Count your gears.

Yeah that sounds exactly like what is going on with my 96' explorer. I hooked it up to my diagnostics computer and it told me that my "Automatic Shift Solenoid B" is either stuck or went bad. So yeah you most likley need to replace either the shift solenoid A or B.
