1997 ford explorer
Hello!! I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a 1997 ford explorer eddie bauer that is having trouble. We have changed the tranissmision filter and censor for shift control in the transmission> It is still changing gears when you lift off the accelarator. Does any one what this could be???

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions section. Could you explain the problem with more details? Do you have a check engine light or a flashing overdrive light? Are there any trouble codes?

It started a couple of days ago. When I took my foot off the accelarator (gas pedal) it down shifted really hard. Like it was trying to find a gear to go in to. We were told that maybe it was the transmission filter. We changed the transmission filter and it didn't work. Took it for a ride and the O/D light came on flashing. So then we were told it could be a sensor a shift control sensor or speed sensor that go in to the transmission. We changed the shift sensor and it still does it but the O/D light is not flashing now. Should we try the speed sensor or could it be something else? Some one said something about a throttle.

Go to AutoZone and have them pull the codes for you... don't disconnect your battery yet. Even though you replaced the sensor, you will still have the code in the ECM. After that, disconnect the battery for about fifteen to thirty minutes, then reconnect the battery and let it idle down to normal. Then take it for a drive and see what happens.

check your input shaft as well... mine had a needle bearing on it stock, and the needle bearing exploded and melted itself to the rod, causing problems when i was changing gears or going into first.

warning: you need to drop the trannie for this mission. lol

(according to aamco thats pretty common with those bearings)

Hey guys I'm new here but I was wondering if y'all could help me. I have a 1997 explorer and with an automatic tranny. Now it only has about 3000 miles on it and I just put a new transfer case in it which has about 150 miles in it. When I put my truck in reverse it makes a loud bang which shakes the whole truck. It'll then back up a few feet then make an awful chainsaw like noise. HELP!!!!
