1998 AWD 5.0L front shaft removal. HELP PLEASE!

My front output shaft seal went out recently. I have the new parts. Do I need to pull the transfer case to get the shaft off? Online it says there is a snapring holding the shaft in the transfer case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
