1998 Explorer stall on acceleration

My 1998 Explorer nearly stalls sometimes on acceleration. For example, when the engine is warm and you stop on an entrance ramp and then accelerate to enter highway it sometimes (not very often)will lose power(a couple of times it has actually stalled out altogether) for a second or two and almost stall but then gets power and takes off. Any ideas?

We've had it in to dealer a couple of times and they have replaced something to do with throttle on some recall related thing but this has not helped.

Brand new, mine did the same thing... Dealer reprogrammed the PCM, problem went away for nearly two years. Problem resurfaced a month ago... on investigation, the IAC (idle air control) valve was found to be sluggish. Please note, it was not found to be faulty, just sluggish in reaction. The Ford tech replaced it (under warranty). I have not had enough time to throughly test; however, it seems to have fixed the problem. BTW... there was a TSB issued on the PCM reprogramming... I think you can find the reference on NHTSA's site http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov I believe is the address.

Good luck.

Mine ran poorly (stalled, rough idle, hesitated) until I got the intake manifold gaskets replaced. I took it to the shop three times and they also replaced my throttle body under the recall but it did not fix the problem. They also replaced my MAF sensor twice, but to no avail. You need to tell them to specifically check/or replace the intake mainifold gaskets; that did the trick for me. Good luck!

P.S. Just a reminder; check the spark plugs and wires. Under heavy acceleration bad plugs or wires could "load up" causing a hesitation problem.

Mine just did it....

Yesterday, I was heading down to Ohio to look at a used '92 Sport, and I got caught in a stopped lane of traffic. When I saw a gap, I pulled out and punched it. It bucked twice, hesitated, bucked again, and then took off running like it was supposed to have done in the first place. Scared the bejeesus out of me! I have no clue what would have caused it. It was kind of like a really bad hiccough. Ran fine up until that point, and all the way home after that. No lights, no warnings, no trouble symptoms before or after... any ideas? I won't get it fixed, since Ford is getting it back sometime soon, but thought someone might know.
