Hey folks,

I just finished a KKM intake install and noticed some low end torque increase...which is what I wanted. On the frwy I experienced something else too- increased mpg's! Of course, I tested the difference between stock and the KKM utilizing the same conditions. I measured speed using a gps to control for variances from the speedometer and distance by traveling the same route.

2005 xlt 4.0 awd

stock: 14 mi stretch on a slight uphill grade at 62-64mph
15.2 mpg (measure by trip computer)

KKM: Same distance and same rate of speed
17.4 mpg

On a level (by visual estimation) surface for 11 miles. Measured from a standstill to 65mph.

stock: 18.8 mpg
KKM: 22.04 mpg

Obviously I did not 'gun' the car. However, I didn't feather it either. I will create some additional controls and test again next week.

Cool...but what does it have to do with exhaust?

I meant intake + exhaust.

Actually, I'm not sure yet what i will do about the exhaust system.

My Bad!

Lol, no prob, though I did spend a moment wondering if I was losing my mind...."I swear I clicked on the one about exhaust," lol...

Next up should be a tuner and efan:D Give James Henson a shout for the tuner and go to the junkyard for a good efan.

Yes. My gas mileage improved about 1-2 mpgs in town and about 1 on the highway. I also installed the tuner at the same time so I can't say how much that helped/worsened gas mileage. I noticed a seat of the pants feel when driving around(with stock tune) and the motor felt a little more respsonsive when I installed the efan. I installed the tune later that day and the difference was even more. Not so much that you would think your driving a mustang, but enough to know there is an improvment. The tuner ($400) and efan(free:D) plus controller($30) was worth the effort.

The main problem is that I used a cheap controller for the fan and therefore it doesn't kick on when I turn on the AC. So the AC doesn't work until I am driving or the operating temp rises enough to kick the efan on. I need to figure out a way to wire it up or get a better controller.

Just depends on what you are looking to spend. A tuner may be a better investment at the moment($400), but if you can find a good used efan and get a decent controller, it will be a plus as well.

I've been pricing the tune systems and they're a little expensive. The efan might be a good alternative.
