2.9 transmission to a 4.0

I have a 1992 explorer with an automatic and wanting to change it to a 5 speed due to the autos always going out the way I pull with it will a 2.9 transmission bolt up to the 4.0 and hold up I saw elsewhere that they will but I'm trying to find out for sure that they will bolt up and hold up to pulling about a ton. Thanks
