His 5.0 is a 2000 model, which should have the cast manifolds as opposed to the earlier tubular style that are prone to cracking.

How many miles are on the Explorer? Check engine light? Have you done a visual inspection of the plugs and plug wires? Can you hear a miss while it is idling?

cast manifolds can crack too. I have seen a few. But it never hurts to check spark plugs. Also a filter change on the fuel is alway good. Exspecially if you run your tank down to E all the time.

I wasn't trying to imply that cast manifolds cannot crack. It's just that the tubular manifolds are a well-known issue here on the board for that reason. I've had two '98 5.0s with the tubulars and they both leaked horribly. My current '01 with cast manifolds hasn't had any issues yet.

I'm sure. I was just letting him know that they can crack to, so to check for it just incase. I mean we have a 87 one ton chevy with a 350 that has really low miles on it, and I noticed it had cracks in the manifolds, so you never know. Some just crack. Look at the E3 manifolds on turbo svo's. They have a real bad habit of cracking from the heat.
