I have a friend with a 2000 explorer 4x4 4.0 HV v6 auto trans. It will not shift into forward but it well move in the lower gears but not in drive or reverse. I need to know which modulators conrole this or how to possibly fix this problems. was driving down the road and it acted like it went from drive to neutral. can anyone help

More than a pretty good chance it's new transmission time. About the only thing you can check is that the shift linkage hasn't come out of adjustment.

Trans problem

It sounds like you have the blown gasket in the valve body problem. This happens on the Ford auto trans for the 96-01 trans. I had the problem and a dealer wanted 3500 for a new trans. The auto shop wanted 2100-2600 to rebuild. I checked the trans section on this website and found it to be a simple gasket problem. The gasket runs about 5 bucks for the old style or around 50 bucks for the new style which will not blow out. If you can do repairs yourself, check it out. I went with my own repairs and a few other improvements as well. I have maybe 150 into the trans and it shifts better than it did when new. Or at least that is what I think.
