howdy all...i'm new here...just got a 2000 explorer sport (traded off my little 98 ranger) and i've got a few questions about the sohc v6.

at idle (in park) and while in gear with the brakes applied the engine makes kind of a gurgling sound (for the lack of a better description). it seems to lessen after driving for a while, but i still notice it.

the truck has 37k miles on it and has an extended warranty through the dealer good for a couple thousand more miles.

mostly i was wondering if anyone else has this problem or if it is typical. i read a couple of other posts that seem like they might be the same problem. my main question is, are there any engine recalls for 2000 sports with the sohc? i've never dealt with a recall before so any hints or tips on finding out more is appreciated.

thanks in advance

What you're describing sounds like the common SOHC Camshaft Chain Tensioner and Intake Gasket problem - Ford Technical Service Bulletin 00M12.

If you search this board you'll find all sorts of posts related to it. Also, if you go to www.alldata.com you'll see some general descriptions of recalls and TSBs. I had the dealer double check my VIN to see if I was eligible.

I heard Ford extended the warranty on 00M12 to 72,000 miles...had mine done recently at 66,000 and it runs great!

thanks dean,

i did a search on that tsb number and came up with some more good info that leads me to believe that i have that same problem.

i'm on vacation in a couple weeks...i'll take the x in and see what they say.

thanks again
