Hello all ,

New to the forum and have spent a lot of time reading the great tips and insight by everyone on here. Any help with a couple of issues would be greatly appreciated.
I would say my experience working on vehicles is pretty limited but can read through a manual and understand how things operate, and for the most part attempt to fix.
Wife's truck with a 50,000 mile motor put in it by shop a year ago. 4.0 V6 OHV.
Just had the tranny rebuilt as well. Still under warranty.
Couple of days ago started to intermittently miss at idle as well as under load.

Got codes 0304 and 1701. Not really sure how to interpret the numbers below?

Calculated load value of 74.9 %
STFT Bank 1 minus 2.34%
LTFT Bank 1 3.13 %
STFT Bank 2 2.34%
LTFT Bank 2 1.56 %

Kinda short on nickles these days, and wanting to learn how to work on this truck , gonna give it a try.

Purchased wires and plugs as well as fuel filter and going to start there. Friend said he thought might be plug/wire issue as it misses under load. Said he thought vacuum if only at idle ? Cylinder 3 plug does have some corrosion on wire end of plug. So I jacked the truck up today, took wheel off and spayed the plug area with pb blaster and going to let it sit. Can already tell that's gonna be a fun job getting those plugs and wires changed.

Also, observed coolant ponded at area below top radiator hose. Hoping it is just a leak at hose clamp Pictures at link below

Sorry for the long winded post , but would really appreciate any insight as to what might be going on with this truck or what else to try if the plugs and wires as well as fuel filter doesn't fix the prob.

Thanks,

Bill

Welcome to the forum. Changing the plugs on a 4.0 OHV isn't bad at all. I've always been able to change them from the top side without pulling the wheels. Pulling out the plugs may give you some insight into whats up. I chased a misfire and lean condition on my '00 4.0 OHV for a long time. Although I still have issues I am working through I had a cracked cylinder head that was leaking coolant into the number 3 cylinder. Unfortunately that is fairly common on these engines. My dealer confirmed this by bringing the engine up to temperature, pulling the number 3 plug and pressurizing the coolant. They could see steam coming out of the cylinder.

The other common problem with these engines is a leaking upper and lower intake gasket. The upper is pretty easy to change, the lower is more involved.

I wish you the best on tracking it down.

Jim
