I just bought a 2000 XLT 5.0, AT, AWD with 101K miles. I don't know the history of the truck, but it appears to have been well kept. When I accelerate from a stop, it hits a flat spot/hesitation when the RPMS are around 1200-1500. Once beyond 1500 rpms it is solid. I'm am getting a P0401 code (Insufficient EGR Flow) occassionally, but I'm not sure it's related. After I reset the code, it will run for a couple of hundred miles before it kicks the code back on. The hesitation/flat spot problem is there all the time.

Any ideas?

P0401 was a DPFE sensor on mine. I didn't really experience the other symptoms you're having, but it might not be a bad place to start?
