I dug and dug through this forum and couldn't find anything solid on what size belt to use to bypass my broken A/C Compressor, so here is my own thread on what I used. I will also provide some updates while I'm still in
. I will be going overseas soon and obviously won't be driving my Exploder.
Here is a little overview of what all occurred:
- During the drive home from a vacation, the Compressor froze and I think the wheel had broken somehow and was now spinning freely.
- Got home after a vacation to find red dust all over the engine compartment.
- Tried to start the Exploder the next morning to go to work and found the Compressor frozen and the serpentine belt now broken. Further inspection revealed that the compressor was not only frozen but some bearings on the wheel were missing and it wouldn't spin freely like it did on the trip home.
- Couldn't get it to a shop to evacuate the freon and I don't have the money to get it towed so I opted to try and find a shorter belt.
- Went to Oreilly's and they pretty much gave me the cold sholder and said it wouldn't work.
- Went to Autozone and told them the same story: "Need a belt that is slightly less than 73" (which is the approx. length with no tension from the pulley).
- They gave me a Duralast K715K6 Multi-V Belt $19.99.
- I thought I was lucky, it fit perfectly and I didn't have to go back to the store.
- So technically at this point the problem is solved. What sucks is that I ran into another issue.
- Now there is a burning smell/smoke coming from the right side of the engine near the header. Kinda smells like rubber, but I don't see any rubber in the area that has any burnt remnants. Also, after I cut off the engine, I climbed underneath and didn't smell anything. The smoke/smell kicks in after a minute or two after starting the engine.
- I could be retarded and it could be burning oil, but it just smells much more like rubber.
