2001 Ranger Axle Question

Been searching around for a while and wanted to know if what I gathered is true:

Front Axle: D35 A-frame, NOT TTB's
Rear Axle: 7.5 with 2.8/3.0 L engine
8.8 with 4.0 L engine

Is this correct?

How strong are the axle shafts on the D35 A frame? A friend of mine wants to put lockers on either the front or rear, or both, and I'm not sure what to tell him?

Depends on tire size. Several ppl have their IFS locked up.

If I remember right, aren't the rear 8.8's in the Rangers only 28 spline?

Yup. Ranger 8.8s are 28-spline, UNLESS you have an FX4, then it's 31-spline.

Yup, 28-spline. He could lock the front, but it does depend on tire size as to how good of a upgrade it'd be and how reliable.

What do you mean by that? What would you recommend? Tire size and with what locker brand?

He just read somewhere that rangers after 98 and are 4x4 all have 8.8 regardless of engine size. (i don't know) He has a 3.0 V6.

Since he has 28 spline, is there a locker form him, or should he lock up the front?

There's plenty of lockers for a 28-spline.

Dude...did you read anything? We just said "plenty of ppl lock up their IFS" and that it all depends on tire size. If you've got a locked front (stress on front end) with 35 (more stress on front end) you're probably going to break something. If you've got 31-33s(33s if he's somewhat cautious) and a locked front, he'd be fine...

I wasn't sure what size tires you should be putting on a locked IFS. But he is sketchy about locking the IFS in the first place. I think he's leaning towards locking the rear only.
