I stumbled into a very clean XLS one owner 2wd that the front guide let loose., it sounded like crap,. They sold it to me for $400. Deep blue.

OK, so no yellow box in the right rear of the back either., I assume that would of been the code for the digital pad,.

BUT---I did find a plastic bag with the factory trailer connection, with all the accessories. I was JUST on Ebay looking at ordering one. I put a Class4 hitch on it this am.

With no yellow box, I assume I cannot program a fob. Or can I? The motor I put in it I disabled the idler chain and sprocket. Nice quiet motor. I say this one is a KEEPER!

The XLS is the bottom of the Explorer trim levels. (XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited). As such the XLS came with very little in the way of creature comforts. Some don't even have power windows. If you don't have the RAP module you can't use fobs or the keypad to unlock the doors.

I would assume there are no hidden electrical connections on this model either, whereas, I can obtain a PAT box then hook it up?

IDK, sometimes the manufacturer will use the same wiring harness irregardless of what options a vehicle may have. For example my RWD's have wiring in the dash for the 4x4 switch. Also the instrument clusters are fully populated with bulbs. I guess it's just cheaper and easier for Ford to use the same parts/harnesses. You'd have to remove the left cargo panel and see whats in there connection wise.

Here are a few things I've noticed GEN II XLS's may not have...
- Power windows
- Privacy glass
- Power door locks
- A/C
- Automatic transmission
- Front bucket seats
- Power seats

If you enter your VIN into Fords on-line ETIS site you can see what options your truck was born with.
