Hello Forum, I am hoping that someone out there can help me with my problem, I know that it sure would be appreciated. Trouble started a few weeks ago. My daughter had been the sole driver , so exactly when the problem started I have no idea. But, when I drove it, it seemed to have gotten some bad gas, awful dead gas smell, faltering, especially going up a hill, but no problem with the tranny shifting. Well, the next day, daughter is out in it, she said after coming out of the store, she started it and the RPM's revved up , all the gauges were going crazy and the O/D light was flashing. She turned off the engine. But when I got there, the Explorer would
not start and the exhaust fumes were horrible. This is what I have done so far:

*Ran OBDII scan, said MIL was off, no codes

*Cleaned plugs and put them back in, Explorer started, but ran rough.

*Cleaned the MAF sensor, (first, neighbor sprayed carb cleaner in it) with MAF cleaner.

* Cleaned plugs again and it started, but seems to flood(I do have gas in the oil, I can smell it on the dipstick and filler cap). When I can determine what my problem is, I will change oil and filter before driving again.

* On the last start, the Message Center displayed that I needed to " Check Engine Temperature" and "Check Transmission". These messages appear as soon as it starts. Also, the engine seems to rev on it's own, then that's when the "O/D off" starts blinking. To my knowledge the transmission was doing OK, shifting good, etc, when this happened. Of course, my daughter was driving and may not have noticed. Now it's solely on this Mom to try and fix it, lol;). Any ideas on what to do next?

Thanks in advance,
Mom the Mechanic (lol);)
