I have a 2002 Explorer XLT SUV with the 6 CD player in dash stock
unit. I want to add an after market amp. I need to find the
stock amp so I can bypass and add new amp. Does anyone
know the location? Wiring diagram? Thanks, Frank

Welcome to the site. :) I don't think the 2002 has an external amp, except for the subwoofer. I thought Ford did away withthe stupid external amps in 98. Are you replacing the speakers as well?

Amp Location...Speakers

Yes, I already replaced speakers to Pioneer 4 way and added 8 inch Bazooka Amplified Sub. I am looking for a brighter cleaner sound-the bass is fine-it's the highs and midrange I want to enhance.

Some people have told me-I am wasting my money putting an amp in when I have a stock HU. Just wondering if this is true?

With the stock HU you will have to run line level style, as opposed to RCA's. I wouldn't amp a factory deck, an Aftermarket HU might be good enough for the Pioneers, but it's always nice to have an amp made for highs with it's own crossover.
