2002 mercury mountaineer gas gauge

My gas gauge reads empty all the time even after i fill it up is there a easy fix for the problem.What is the problem?

My first guess would be that you have a bad fuel level sensor, which is built into the fuel pump. This requires removing the fuel tank in order to replace it. If you'd like, I have access to pdf files with step by step instructions on how to go about doing this procedure. PM me your e-mail address if you'd like, and I will be more than happy to send it to you. Which engine do you have? 4.0, 4.0 Flex Fuel, or 4.6?

could it be the ac dc converter that is bad.I have the 4.0 v6 No flex fuel..If it is the ac dc converter how do I fix it...
