2 days ago I went out to start my ranger so it could warm up. It was very cold maybe 5 degrees so I let it warm up for about 20 mins. When I put it in reverse i heard a loud snap and sure enough transmission fluid was coming out fast. This is the second time this has happened in 2 years and only when it is really cold out. Just wondering what other factors if any would cause this? If high line pressure how do u correct that?

Just replaced the cover and it had a crack in it so with all that pressure it came out really fast when it happened. If the bores are worn is this causing the servo piston to slam into the cover? and why is it when it only really cold this will happen? Fluid gets thicker? would lucas transmission treatment prevent this cause i don't have the funds to do anything else being a full-time college student. I guess im just looking for further prevention with the least amount of money. I know the 5r44e transmission has tons of problems since it came out. Maybe its just time to get rid of this money pit.
